This Is Not Art 08 - Position Available - Sustainability Co-ordinator
Keen and green, you will research and oversee initiatives to address the sustainability of the event, using your flair to communicate these strategies to our staff and audience.
This Is Not Art is addressing its sustainability and managing a waste-wise, resource-aware event. We already implement ways to make the event more sustainable:
- using recycled papers for our printed promotional materials
- reusing decor materials from year to year
- trialling different disposable cups (we don't have the ability to compost all the Festival Club waste, so biodegradable cups are no go, but recycled-and-recyclable are the way to go!)
- improving waste management practices and making it easier for our audience to be waste aware - recycling, good signage
- using clean green cleaning products and practices in the Festival Club
- recycled toilet paper in the festival club
- events in the program which address environmental philosophies and issues and offer creative solutions, including
- encouraging best energy-use travel (rail, coach, car pool) to and from the festival
- celebrating a DIY ethic and social / political / cultural awareness and activism
In 2008 we have highlighted other initiatives to integrate, including solar powered production for the Sunday Fair Stage. And there may be other things we are missing... which is where you come in!
A position is available for a Sustainability Co-ordinator to oversee and integrate positive environmentally sustainable initiatives into the total event management, and assist to roll out some of the Newcastle specific enviro focussed events (including the Bike Library and DIY Bike Workshops run by NBEC)
Expressions of Interest are being invited until Friday 23 May 2008.
