This Is Not Art is an umbrella term for the independent festivals and projects which take place Newcastle, Australia, for five days in September / October each year. In 2008 the festivals are:

Festival Directors

Each year the This Is Not Art festival program is curated, managed and produced by emerging producers from each of these festivals. Meet the 2008 Festival Directors for Electrofringe, National Young Writers' Festival, Sound Summit and Critical Animals, located around Australia:

Electrofringe 2008 is directed by Alex White (Syd), Elmar Trefz (Syd) and Somaya Langley (Syd).

National Young Writers' Festival 2008 is directed by Nicolas Low (Melb), Amy Ingram (Bris) and Dan Evans (Bris).

Sound Summit 2008 is Directed by Millie Millgate (Syd) and Eliza Sarlos (Syd).

Critical Animals 2008 is Directed by Astrid Lorange (Syd) and Britt Guy (Bris).

This Is Not Art-org 

This Is Not Art is collectively organised by This is Not Art-org, a group made up of the Directors of the individual festivals, This is Not Art appointed staff (undertaking roles in Publicity, Production, Special Events planning and Festival Club Operations), some long-time This is Not Art volunteers and advisors, and a This is Not Art Festival Co-ordinator employed by the Octapod Association.

As artistic director of This Is Not Art, This is Not Art-org creates the vision for the festival, facilitating a strong program in which independent festivals cross-over, complement and challenge, delivering a critical forum and showcase for innovative independent arts and new media practice.

Each festival is accountable to This is Not Art-org's vision and This is Not Art-org functions to direct the delivery of the festival in terms of style and an overall identity.
