When I dream, I see myself as light skinned with brown hair. Sometimes I look at myself in the mirror and I am shocked to see such distinct Asian features.
I am consistently mistaken for Chinese but when I bounce back with pride in my Cambodian heritage, I am unable to answer questions about the geography of the country, the language and the specificities of the culture.
come here, kom-my is a solo show in dire need to discover what being a second generation New Zealand Cambodian means for myself and how the uniqueness of Cambodian culture interacts with our society.
Join us for the opening of The Shape of Memory, an exhibition which explores giving a form or shape to the intangible concept of memory and its effects on our past, present and future.
In partnership with The Lock-Up.
Exhibition runs till 15 October 2017
