This Is Not Art is looking for committed people to fill key organisational (volunteer) roles for 2008. Its an amazing opportunity for you to get involved in a vibrant, independent national festival, meet amazing people, develop your skills - everything except get paid! So, if you're a keen & committed character who wants to roll up their sleeves and get involved in the country's most exciting cross-practice arts festival we want you to join our team. Getting involved at this stage means you can contribute to planning, promoting and developing the festival – a perfect opportunity to get hands-on experience, test yourself, or share your talents.
POSITIONS AVAILABLE:
Volunteers Manager – a key HR role where you get to find, organise and manage the festival volunteers who will run the bar, set up our venues, hang the banners and survey our audience. You will be organised, approachable, resourceful and intuitive.
Marketing Co-ordinator – the linchpin of the Promotional campaign, you will be the wordsmith preparing exhilarating copy for printed promo, website, e-newsletters & ads, managing the marketing materials, as well as rolling out the distribution strategy. Uber-organised and wow-ing us with your words.
Publicity & Audience Research x 3 – Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle – rolling out a national PR campaign, this team will research, write & target media releases to Student Media, Street Press and online publications. Take on this awesome opportunity to develop your media contacts, refine your style and grow your understanding of the industry. You will be resourceful, arts & music savvy and quick to deliver quality.
Webmaster – online and onto it! Managing copy, image and info upload to the festival website, mailing to and moderating the elist, managing MySpace and Facebook and any other interwebby type things. You will be cyber-savvy, quick to learn, thorough, and quite likely are already surgically attached to a mainframe.
Sunday Fair Co-ordinator/s – manage a lovely one day event in Civic Park: music stage plus artists market & publishing/indie design/record label fair. Full event management opportunity, including artist liaison, research, promotion, site management & styling. Awesome day which is the highlight of the festival for many – put your stamp on it!
Sustainability Co-ordinator – keen and green, you will research and oversee initiatives to address the sustainability of the event, using your flair to communicate these strategies to our staff and audience. Be the go to person to make sure the enviro-focussed events run smoothly

Student Placements – limited opportunities by application & interview. Although University of Newcastle placements are usually Semester 2, to gain your placement with us you must be involved in a volunteer capacity earlier in the year, which is when the event needs you most (for a negotiated few hours a week until your placement starts). The positions are:

Production & Events Team - Event Assistant x 3
assist Festival Club Bar Manager [hospitality operations, buyers research, event management]
assist Festival Co-ordinator [event management, logistics, marketing, publicity, research, supplier liaison]
assist Sunday Fair co-ordinator [event management, logistics, marketing, research, publicity]
Intention to Advertise - Festival Co-ordinator, paid part-time (24 hrs/wk)
The Octapod Association intends to advertise the This Is Not Art Festival Co-ordinator position this coming June, in local and national publications. This is a paid part-time position with the Octapod Association. The successful applicant will begin in the role with a handover prior-to, throughout, and after this years festival. Applicants with previous experience working on This Is Not Art festival will be highly considered. The full position description and job offer will be advertised in June.
