This Is Not Art Programming
This Is Not Art program is developed in a number of ways. Each of the festivals - ELECTROFRINGE, NATIONAL YOUNG WRITERS' FESTIVAL, SOUND SUMMIT, CRITICAL ANIMALS - curates a program of events tapping into the most interesting and exciting ideas, art forms, practices and people practicing in Australia (some overseas!).
The festivals open a call for proposals early in the year – this year the closing dates are 31 March 2008 (tho Electrofringe has a number of proposal areas with different dates – check their website for deets).
The artistic directors of the festivals also research in their own areas of interest and expertise – so the directions of the festival program will be dynamic and exploratory, changing focus from year to year while maintaining a commitment to seeking out the most challenging and prescient stuff goin on in Australia at the moment.
These individuals and collectives are invited to Newcastle to present and participate in panel discussions, artist presentations, skills development workshops, exhibitions, performances, readings and other special events. Over five days of intensely good times. And most of it is free!
GIGS - ELECTROFRINGE AND SOUND SUMMIT
From
this body of selected artists, Electrofringe and Sound Summit curate
a series of gigs and special performances, to allow presenting
artists a performance opportunity at the festival.
- Electrofringe gigs
are by invitation only and are drawn from the festival program, so,
if you want an Electrofringe gig, you need to submit a proposal to
the directors, following their guidelines, by 31 March 2008. www.electrofringe.net
- Sound Summit programming arrangements are different but you will need to submit an Expression of Interest along with a sample of your work – contact millie[at]musicnsw.com
GIGS - FESTIVAL CLUB, SUNDAY FAIR DAY
There are other gigs opportunities at the This Is Not Art Festival Club, the Sunday Fair in the park and other opportunities that might emerge out of the programming. These are curated events, mostly by invitation, tho if your proposal looks good we might be able to include you.
If you are from outside of Newcastle, as a rule we would prefer to program artists who will be presenting at the festival, so that your travel and accommodation and other logistics are already taken care of. So, again, you should be applying to the festivals with your program proposal, following their guidelines, by the deadline of 31 March.
If you are a local act and you have something special to offer our audiences and are very excited to have the chance to play to a discerning convergence of Newcastle and Australia's most interesting creative people then please do send us your Expression of Interest – use the template below – along with a promo sample of your work.
SPECIAL EVENTS
For a special event to be considered it must be a fully formed project proposal. This Is Not Art is not a producing festival and has no resources to develop projects - you will need to seek seperate project funding. Tho, we may be able to help with in-kind support such as advice and promo. You should apply directly to the most appropriate festival, using their guidelines for submission, by 31 March.
If your proposal falls out of the realm of those specific festivals, and you still think it is appropriate for This Is Not Art, please do send an Expression of Interest – use the template below.
